A personal domain
Welcome to arwym.com.
Arwym’s Domain comprises of a “network” or “collective” of Web sites and pages, –many of which I fail to update consistently…
The content of said sites and pages mostly revolves around my own hobbies and projects, plus a few other things. I also host my brother’s blog, and maybe in the future, some of my friends’ personal sites.
Within the domain, I also plan to host some webrings and cliques. (This is not happening soon, though; mainly because I don’t have as much time anymore. Sorry.)
I already lost count of how many times I have re-created this place. But what I can tell you is how different it now is from its original version. Unfortunately, I don’t have any screenshots to show you; but if you are an old visitor, you should have an idea.
A little history
I think I bought this domain name around year 2007; but before that, I already had a small collection of personal sites. Thus, I could say that this idea is over three or four years old.
Some time ago, I wrote the –incomplete– story of how this site came to be, with a semi-dramatic tone. You can read it now:
Because every living being has to evolve in order to survive… Even websites! Yes, because to me, a website is like a living being.
What follows now is the history of Arwym’s Domain, once known as Beautifully Insane.
*Dramatic music begins.* It was on July 11th, year 2007. A mysterious warrior in search of vengeance… *Dramatic music stops.*
… Okay, enough of that.
The idea of having a personal website began a long time ago. Basically, since the time when I started making websites, somewhere between 2003 and 2004. Unfortunately, my early Web history is pretty vague.
I started like most, in a free server. Mine was a Geocities combined with free Bravenet tools, and wow, how excited I was! But the truth is that that website sucked BIG. It still exists, actually… but I am not showing you, simply because it’s quite scary. You can try to guess the address, though! (Update: Geocities is dead, to the relief of many, and to the disgrace of even more.)
By that time, I also discovered how addicting online gaming could be, when I had my first online experience in a game, with a trial version of Age of Empires: Rise of Rome.
What I have to say is that this first website, which name was Fantasy Kingdoms (in regard to my love for the fantasy genre and roleplaying games), was the closest I had to a personal website, until the creation of this domain. The reason for this is that, after leaving Fantasy Kingdoms, I dedicated my Web site -making efforts to managing online communities. That is when my love for ‘social web development’ surged, even though I wasn’t aware of it for a long time. I just loved the idea of online forums and games where you could interact with other people.
After causing some drama and making people hate me due to my stupidity and immaturity (I was taking everything too seriously and personal), I stopped playing AoE: RoR and, months later, I found about browser-based online games. Phantasy RPG was the first, I think. But it was boring, so then came the infamous Adventure Quest, and that is when I started my own clan, the Holy Dragon Knights! HDK had a Freewebs website and an InvisionFree message board, and both still exist to this date, if I checked well.
I don’t remember exactly during what year, but it was sometime between 2004 and 2005, that I also created other forums, named after my first website, Fantasy Kingdoms, and which purpose was to have someplace to talk about general topics. They didn’t last long, but yes, I had active members and people who really thought I was cool, heheh! Even though in those years, as I see it now, I was very stupid and ignorant. I was like 14, you know!
And so, I continued to work on social communities. After HDK, I dedicated a year of my life to Final Fantasy XI: Online, and the big group of friends I had there, inside a ‘linkshell’ (clan) called Darkness Hunters. But I returned to forum managing full-time in 2006.
An important point to mention is that Eternal Fantasy, my biggest and most important ‘project’, even today, already existed, but in its early stages. It was yet another message board, but with a theme, and I spent a lot of time learning new things and improving my Web development skills just to make it better. I didn’t know how important it would become for me. Now I realize that Eternal Fantasy, later known as Project Fantasy, actually changed my life.
More is coming later to this page. I am just tired right now and need a break to think how I am going to narrate the following paragraphs of my Web history. This was supposed to be “the History of Arwym’s Domain”, but this site has its roots in everything that I have done online before its existence.
Credits
Many thanks to Alis Dee, from VOID-STAR.NET and Got Host?, for hosting my website for so long! How long was it, really? … I think it started around 2008!
Update: Starting on December, 2011, my sites have a new home. I am now hosted by ServInt. However, I will be forever in gratitude with Alis Dee, for granting me some space in her server for so long. I know I kind of failed her during the last year, breaking a few rules, and I regret it. I am very sorry for that. Still, thank you, Dee!
